Life Off Leash productions document real projects as they happen—while we're learning, building, solving problems, making mistakes, and figuring things out as a family.

We care about the process as much as the finished product: the quiet focus of the workshop, the frustration of getting something wrong, the satisfaction of figuring it out, and the moments that happen along the way.

Flagship Production
An original series following the construction of an 18'10" wooden sailing dory—built by hand inside a canvas wall tent workshop in North Idaho.
From an empty hillside to a finished boat, Season One follows the entire process: building the workshop, learning the craft, raising a family in the middle of the project, and eventually taking the boat to the water.
Building the foundation, solving the slope, and creating a level platform before the North Idaho winter arrives.
Erecting the canvas wall tent, installing wood-stove heat, and building the workshop where the dory will take shape.
From the first piece of plywood to the final fiberglass seam. Learning the craft, solving problems, making mistakes, and building the hull alongside our children.
Sanding, finishing, shaping the oars, building the rig, and preparing the boat for the water.
The boat finally leaves the workshop. We launch on Lake Pend Oreille, raise the sail, and see where the first voyage takes us.
Looking Ahead
Season One is only the beginning.
We don't have the next ten years completely mapped out—and that's intentional.
There will be more places to explore, more things to build, more skills to learn, and more stories to tell. Some will be planned years in advance. Others will emerge from wherever life takes us.
